Postponed Payment Program [top]
California Southern Law School has a tuition payment program which places a ceiling of $500 per month on the monthly payments while signing a promissory note for the remainder of each semester's tuition.
Under this plan for the 2008-09 academic year, students make 9 payments of $500 each school year totaling $4500. As regular tuition and fees is $6560, students are deferring $1030 each semester, or a total of $2060 for the year. Students sign two Postponed Promissory Notes (PPN) for $1030 at 7% interest to pay for the $2060. Interest does not begin accruing until the end of the semester for which the note is written.
When a student ceases to be enrolled, be it at the end of the first, second, third or fourth year, the PPNs plus accrued interest are totaled into a single total indebtedness amount. The student begins making $500 monthly payments on this amount 60 days after enrollment ends until the total indebtedness plus interest is paid in full.
NOTE: This program does not apply to the Spring Beginning or Summer sessions.

Intent to withdraw must be made in writing and is effective on the postmarked date of a mailed request or on the date a written notice of withdrawal is delivered to the administrative office. The school adheres to the following refund policy:
If a student cancels registration before attending classes, all monies paid for tuition, fees (including application fee), and books (if unmarked) will be refunded. If a student cancels registration after attending classes, tuition and fees will be refunded on the following schedule:
Pro-rata refund
The refund policy for students who have completed 60% or less shall be a pro-rata refund of tuition and fees. This refund is based on the percentage of the number of classes that have not transpired as related to the total number of classes per semester or summer session.
Charge = Total tuit. & reg. fees x number of classes transpired divided by the total number of classes in term.
| Example - 20% Charge: | $3190 charge for instruction X | 9 class sessions transpired
divided by 45 classes in term |
= $638 charge |
| Example - 40% Charge: | $3190 charge for instruction X | 18 class sessions transpired
divided by 45 classes in term |
= $1276 charge |
Charge - amount paid = refund due student or due school
Students who have completed 61% or more shall not receive a refund and shall be charged 100% of tuition and fees. Calculation is based on the above mentioned method.
The law school shall pay or credit refunds due on a reasonable or timely basis, not to exceed 30 days following the date upon which the student's withdrawal has been determined.
If a student receiving government funds as a veteran under Title 38, U.S.C. cancels registration before attending classes, all monies paid for tuition, fees (including application fee), and books (if unmarked) will be refunded; if the student cancels registration after attending classes, tuition will be refunded on a pro rata basis and all fees will be refunded.
The law school shall disclose all fees and fee-related policies and procedures to be required of students and provide copies of all information to be given students relating to and regarding tuition, fee and refunds. All disclosures shall comply with the provisions of Title 5, Division 7.5, Chapter 2, Article 13 of the California Code of Regulations.
Dismissals are treated the same as withdrawals for refund purposes.
