The School

The mission of California Southern Law School is to give students the opportunity to further their education, and to make a change in their careers and lives.  We do this by offering a legal education in a setting where small class sizes give the students a sense that they are individuals whom the administration knows by name.

The purpose of California Southern Law School is to enroll students in the traditional law school curriculum to prepare them to become licensed attorneys.  The objective is to provide quality and practical instruction in the traditional law school curriculum.

The Students [top]

California Southern Law School is exclusively a part-time evening law school.  The courses of study are specifically designed for those students who are holding down full-time jobs.  The typical evening law school student is usually mature and experienced.  The backgrounds of students includes the full spectrum of occupational experiences.  The evening program provides time for instruction and study equal to that available in a full-time day school.

The Education [top]

The purpose of the school is to train, prepare, and educate mature men and women for the tasks and contributions that legally-educated men and women provide to our society. The courses are designed to enable a student to do the basic skills that characterize a first-class, well-educated lawyer.  The ability to analyze is developed to separate the relevant from the irrelevant, to examine a problem in all its facets, and to detect an illusive answer.  They learn to orient themselves in the central area of substantive law.  They learn to write, to use a library, to advocate effectively, to listen, and to interrogate.

The Faculty [top]

The faculty members of California Southern Law School are practicing attorneys and jurists who work daily with legal problems and whose experiences lend viable substance to classroom experience.  They are all part-time instructors. Their purpose is to provide students with the lawyerly attributes of analytic ability, substantive legal orientation, basic lawyer's working skills, awareness of institutional legal contexts, and sensitivity to the non-legal environment that always surrounds legal problems.  Their objective is to lay the initial groundwork for the development of these basic attributes.

The Facilities [top]

The method of instruction at this law school for the Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree program is principally in physical classroom facilities.   California Southern Law School's facilities include two buildings with an administrative office, lobby, five classrooms with a total maximum capacity of 300 persons, a library of 1,300 volumes, and restrooms in each building.  The parking area of 175 free spaces is well lighted and immediately adjacent to the school.  The institution, the facilities it occupies, and the equipment it uses fully comply with all federal, state, and local ordinances and regulations, including fire safety, building safety, and health regulations.

Student Housing [top]

California Southern Law School does not have dormitory facilities nor bears any responsibility for assisting students in finding housing. The city of Riverside with a population in excess of 250,000 has a variety of housing options to meet the needs of those few students who moved here from outside the Inland Empire.  You may visit Press-Enterprise.com or San Bernardino Sun.com for housing options.
