Effective July 1, 2001 the credit granting score for each examination is 50 or higher. The total scaled scores fall between 20 and 80; the maximum total credits granted is 60 for successful performance on CLEP examinations. The credit granting score is based upon the minimum score for awarding credit recommended by the American Council on Education.
Recognition of Passing Scores - The Committee of Bar Examiners recognize the passing score of an exam based on the date the exam was taken and the passing score required at that time, even if all required exams have yet to be passed.
There are books that may be purchased at book stores on how to prepare for the CLEP. The following are books geared toward the Full-Year Exam Subjects of English Composition, Humanities, Social Sciences and History, Natural Sciences, and Mathematics. Each book costs around $25.

Although the exams are offered on a year-round basis, some test centers do not administer the exam during the summer months of June and July. Check with the test center for its schedule.
It is recommended that a person apply to take the CLEP as soon as possible so that score results are received before classes begin in late August, early September.
The exam must have been passed and the scores must be on file in the office before the beginning of Fall semester 1st year courses.
Repeating Examinations
You may not repeat an examination within 180 days of the testing date. If you retake the examination within the 180-day period, the administration will be considered invalid, the score will be canceled, and any test fees will be forfeited.
Score Recipient
Applicants must request that official score reports be sent by CLEP to California Southern Law School, 3775 Elizabeth Street, Riverside CA 92506-2508. Visit this College Board webpage on Sending CLEP Test Scores.

The test centers listed below are open test centers (open to all persons) rather than limited test centers (open to the school's enrolled/admitted students only). A person must phone one of these open test centers to inquire as to what months examinations are given at that test center, and how many examinations a person may take per test date. The cost for each exam is approximately $65.00. You should inquire whether the test center requires an additional test center fee for administering the exam(s)and what the fee is; CLEP recommends $15. You should also verify that the test center is still an open test center. Visit this College Board webpage to search for open CLEP Test Centers in your area not listed below.
